The Power of Assertiveness
Samira Salifou

Do you have a difficult time saying "no" even when you know you should? Are you frustrated because you are jeopardizing your goals by attending to the wants, needs, and desires of others? Assertiveness is the ability to express needs, set limits, and state positive and negative feelings. It means standing up for what you want. By learning the power of assertiveness, one can make things happen and achieve their goals.

Self-care -it's more than a bubble bath
Jenelle Pederson

Discussions among aspiring leaders and students often include self-care and burn-out; yet, they are easily skimmed over and poorly understood. As mental health remains an ongoing challenge at Universities, self-care is a forefront concern. In volunteering at the UofA, Edmonton Distress Line, and abroad or managing work and school, I have encountered obstacles and successes in self-care. I’m not an expert, but I have learned key questions and strategies that keep me set-up for success. These are not short cuts, only common-sense practices. Continued discussions on burn-out and self-care strategies will equip future leaders and promote wellness within our community.
