fYrefly in Schools
Melissa Fabrizi, Melinda McNie

fYrefly in Schools is an iSMSS educational initiative developed to help reduce discrimination against sexual and gender minority youth, increase awareness of the impacts of homo/bi/transphobia, and equip students with the tools they need to become effective allies for diversity, equity, and human rights within their schools and communities. Our workshop provides tools and resources that young leaders can use to build inclusive communities, as well as become strong allies with LGBTQ* individuals.

Changing the conversation around sexual violence
Lily Le, Julia Dalman

We are a group of 10 individuals from diverse backgrounds who are working towards a world without sexual violence. We formed the website www.ConsentEd.ca and host and engage in various events, booths, and workshops in the community. We hope to share our experience and engage the University of Alberta community in changing the conversation around sexual violence.

(Un)real Leaders: Mobilising Fans for Activism
Yara Kodershah, Marysia Wojcik

We all have stories we’ve grown to love and characters we can’t help but admire. Edmonton Potterwatch Institute for Charity (EPIC) organizes itself around fictional heroes to inspire leadership in our community. Connect with and learn from an organization that recognizes fantasy not as an escape from our world, but an invitation to go deeper into it.

We are 10 individuals, mostly consisting of University of Alberta students and alumni from diverse backgrounds who came together with the common goal of working towards a world without sexual violence. Through our website, events and workshops, and interactions with the community, we hope to engage other young people in the conversation and take action too.
